Devmode Guide

Brigador Killers includes a built-in devmode system that gives players access to debug tools beyond normal gameplay. This guide covers how to access devmode safely, what you can do with it, and how to protect your saves while experimenting. Devmode is an official feature from Stellar Jockeys, not a third-party hack. For standard gameplay, start with Getting Started instead.

Before you enable devmode

Devmode is powerful but can affect your save files. Before enabling it:

  1. Back up your save directory. Locate your Brigador Killers save folder (typically in Steam userdata for app 903930 or the GOG/itch equivalent) and copy the entire folder to a safe location.
  2. Complete OBSTACLE 1 legitimately. The tutorial teaches mechanics that devmode cannot replace.
  3. Understand the death penalty. Read Inventory and Loadouts so you know what is at risk.
  4. Use a separate save slot if the game supports multiple slots.

Accessing the debug panel

The debug panel is accessible through the game’s menu system:

  1. Launch Brigador Killers through your storefront (Steam, GOG, or itch.io).
  2. Load into a game session—either OBSTACLE 1 or THE GARAGE.
  3. Navigate to the debug panel through the pause menu or designated input.
  4. Enable devmode from the available options.
  5. The debug overlay will appear, giving you access to spawn and parameter tools.

If the debug panel does not appear, ensure you are on the latest game build. Devmode access may be gated behind specific build versions.

What devmode lets you do

Once enabled, devmode provides several categories of tools:

Weapon and vehicle spawning

  • Spawn any weapon from the game’s roster into your inventory.
  • Spawn any vehicle chassis for testing.
  • Test weapon combinations without spending Fabricator resources.
  • Preview hardpoint compatibility before committing to a build.

Game parameter adjustment

  • Modify player health and armor values.
  • Adjust enemy difficulty and accuracy.
  • Change mission parameters.
  • Toggle invulnerability for testing purposes.

Exploration tools

  • Move freely through mission maps without enemy pressure.
  • View enemy patrol routes and detection radii.
  • Examine crate and loot spawn points.
  • Study map geometry for destruction opportunities.

Economy testing

  • Add credits and resources.
  • Test Fabricator recipes without material costs.
  • Preview Merchant Causeway inventories.

Use devmode to answer specific questions:

  1. “Which weapon actually does more DPS?” — Spawn two weapons, test on the same enemy type, compare results. Cross-reference with Weapons Tier List.
  2. “Can this vehicle survive the mission?” — Spawn the vehicle, run the mission with invulnerability off, observe where it takes damage.
  3. “What does this combat rig change?” — Spawn the rig, compare carry weight and movement speed before and after.
  4. “Where do enemies spawn on this map?” — Use exploration tools to mark spawn points, then plan routes around them.

Save safety practices

  • Back up before every devmode session. Copy your save folder to a timestamped backup.
  • Do not report bugs from devmode sessions. Debug manipulation can cause behaviors that do not occur in normal play.
  • Expect progression wipes. Stellar Jockeys has warned that Early Access saves may be wiped during development. Devmode saves are even less stable.
  • Do not use devmode on your main save if you care about progression integrity.

Devmode limitations

  • Some game systems (morale, AI state machines) may respond unpredictably to debug manipulation.
  • Save corruption is possible if you modify values the game does not expect.
  • Performance may degrade if you spawn too many entities simultaneously.
  • Not all debug functions are documented—experiment carefully.

Returning to normal play

When you finish experimenting:

  1. Disable devmode through the debug panel.
  2. Close and relaunch the game to ensure clean state.
  3. Load your backup save or continue from your legitimate save slot.
  4. Apply what you learned to your normal Garage workflow.

Devmode is a learning tool. Use it to understand systems, test hypotheses, and prepare for real missions—not to skip the game.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

Is devmode an official feature?

Yes. Devmode is built into Brigador Killers by Stellar Jockeys. It is not a third-party hack or exploit.

Will using devmode corrupt my save?

It can if used carelessly. Always back up your save directory before enabling devmode and use a separate save slot.

Can I spawn any weapon in devmode?

Yes. Devmode allows spawning any weapon and vehicle from the game's roster for testing purposes.

Should I report bugs found in devmode?

No. Debug manipulation can cause behaviors that do not occur in normal play. Only report bugs from legitimate gameplay sessions.

How do I disable devmode?

Toggle it off through the debug panel, then close and relaunch the game to ensure a clean state.
